This is your traditional Welsh country pub with a twist, this is a pay it forward pub.  Nestled in the beautiful Monmouthshire countryside, halfway between the historic market towns of Monmouth and Abergavenny. When you visit The Halfway you not only support a rural country pub you support the whole community around it.

We offer whole pub hire which includes full use of our beer garden, marquee, patio & field for stays or additional parking. Hosting talks, workshops, parties and more.

Bell Tent Stays

We have 3 bell tents located in our field to the side of the pub. Stay in the beautiful Monmouthshire countryside with our lovely pub just a few steps away.

Our Story

We always dreamed of living in a little slice of the welsh countryside. We pour our hearts into The Halfway: making it our home and making it a place where you’d always feel at home too. 

If you’ve never been through the doors before… you can expect traditional pub meals and a warm welcome. Hearty Sunday lunches make their way out from the kitchen throughout the year too. Vegetarian, vegan and meals made without gluten are always available, other dietary requirements can be catered for.  

Learn about our community interest company Pubtopia. Enjoy produce & crafts from a range of local suppliers in our village shop, look out for our regular creative & well-being courses or stay on site in our bell tents.

Whether you’re one of our beloved locals or a new face, walkers, families and their dogs are all welcome.

Menu favourites

Due to seasonal availability, we change our menus frequently. Below are some meals we serve up from time to time to give you an idea of what you can expect.

Crispy Halloumi Fries

Golden fried halloumi fries drizzled with hot honey and herbs, served with award-winning Sweet Chilli Jamalade from Black Mountains Preserves — jars also available in the Pubtopia village shop.

Luxury Hawaiian Burger

Succulent 8oz beef burger layered with local Angiddy soft cheese & crispy bacon in a brioche bun. Topped with a skewer of beer-battered onion rings & a juicy slice of pineapple, accompanied by a side of BBQ sauce, homemade chips & salad.

Salmon & Dill Fishcakes

Chunks of Scottish salmonfillet & potato rosti, blended with dill & lemon & coated with a light batter. Served with salad & your choice of homemade chips or new potatoes.

Steak & ale pie

Award-winning local butcher Neil Powell lovingly handcrafts our pies, which have become one of our specialities, created using traditional methods, the finest ingredients, and a unique blend of spices. Served with your choice of homemade chips or creamy mashed potato, peas & of course a large jug of gravy.

12 oz Local Sirloin

Local steak from Beavan family butchers' herd of Limousin suckler cows producing top quality lean meat slaughtered locally. The meat is hung to mature ensuring a tenderness and flavour that is not found elsewhere. Served with vine-ripened tomatoes, beer-battered onion rings, garden peas, your choice of homemade chips or creamy mashed potatoes.

Sunday Lunch

Meat from local farms and suppliers, seasonal vegetables plus lashings of gravy. Yorkshire puddings are a local favourite and the cauliflower cheese is a homemade speciality. During the summer months we also serve our very popular Ploughman's lunch on Sundays. Tuck in with your friends and family.

Pub Meals

Is there anything better than real pub grub ?

We serve large servings of traditional meals such as lasagne, beef burgers, fish cakes & of course homemade chips.

Pop-up kitchens

Monmouthshire and the Wye valley is brimming with great food and top chefs. Occasional pop-up kitchens help us to showcase some of the amazing tastes and talent in the area. You never know who will be popping up in our kitchen from time to time. 

Pop up kitchens include the Beefy boys, Spice up the Valley - Caribbean cusine, Cluckin bull rotisserie & pulled meats van & The Roti Shack, Malaysian curries and hand stretched roti.

Parties & buffets

We offer free venue hire when booking our food packages for 35 guests or more.  We have a range of options including grazing tables or traditional buffet. Our marquee & outdoor area can be used for groups of up to 50 or whole pub hire with all our gardens is available for larger groups.
