Cheers to Dad: The Laughs, the Legends, and a Cracking Father’s Day at The Halfway

Father’s Day is on the horizon — and we’ve got the Sunday plans sorted.

This year, Father’s Day is Sunday, 15th June and whether it’s a slow pint in the garden, a roast with all the trimmings, or a proper Ploughman’s in the sunshine, The Halfway is the perfect place to show the father figure in your life just how brilliant he is.

Of course, no tribute to our dads would be complete without a few classic Welsh dad-isms. The kind of sayings that make you roll your eyes and smile in equal measure. A bit like these sayings we put together for welsh mums. The advice you didn’t ask for but now find yourself repeating. The one-liners that somehow made everything alright.

Here are a few of our favourites:

  • “It’s not the heat, it’s the humidity.”

  • “I’m not sleeping, I’m just resting my eyes.”

  • “Don’t touch that – I’ve just fixed it.”

  • “You don’t need instructions – just use your common sense!”

  • “Back in my day…” (always followed by something mildly exaggerated)

  • “That’ll put hairs on your chest.”

  • “Were you born in a barn?”

  • “It’s not broken unless you’ve tried hitting it first.”

  • “That lawn won’t mow itself.”

  • “If it’s not leaking, rattling or on fire – it’s fine.”

  • “Don’t!” – followed by rolling up a newspaper or picking up a slipper.

If you’ve heard any of those recently, it’s probably time to treat your dad. So this Father’s Day, skip the socks and surprise him with something he’ll really enjoy: a laid-back Sunday at his favourite local.

Here’s what’s on:

  • Sunday Roasts — lovingly prepared, with all the good bits

  • Ploughman’s Lunches — perfect for a relaxed summer nibble

  • Garden Drinks — treat Dad to his favourite tipple, with a seat in the sun (fingers crossed)overlooking the River Trothy and Offa’s Dyke.

  • No fuss, just great food, company, and a proper local welcome

📞 Booking is strongly recommended — we don’t want anyone missing out, especially on Dad’s big day.

And if you’re planning a family get-together, don’t forget we’ve got more space than ever before inside and out.
